The Excellence in Science Award is sponsored by Eli Lilly and Company to recognize outstanding achievement by women in biological science. Nominations recognize a woman whose career achievements have contributed significantly to further our understanding of a particular discipline by excellence in research. Nominations must be submitted via website by March 1, 2010.

In the 2008 Research Assessment Exercise, all our subjects were assessed as including world-leading (4*) research and nearly 90 per cent of our research was rated as being internationally recognised.
As part of our continued commitment to building research capacity we are offering over 100 funding awards for PhD students for 2010 entry. The awards vary according to the subject area and range from full studentships covering all fees and a maintenance grant for three years, to bursaries worth £7,000 a year for three years. Certain awards are linked to teaching commitments of up to 80 hours per year. The awards are normally offered full-time, however some may be available part-time or by distance learning.

Russian scientists living abroad and willing to direct research projects of the resident Russian scientific groups are invited to take part in a grant competition for the 2010-2011 round of the program .
Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation Awards (New Diagnostics for Global Health ) $30 million in Grants available
The Grand Challenges in Global Health initiative is seeking innovative ideas for diagnostics in the developing world. $30 million in funding is available for Phase I of a new grant program to create technologies and components that can be used to assess multiple conditions and pathogens at the point of care in a variety of settings.
